Summary

Alexandre Betinardi Strapasson is an Honorary Lecturer at the Imperial College's Centre for Environmental Policy (CEP). He currently lives in Brazil and is a Senior Lecturer (tenured) at the Centre for Sustainable Development (CDS) at the University of Brasilia (UnB), where he is also Head of Earth Futures Lab. His main interests are climate change, energy transition, nature-based solutions, biomass, land use change, negative emissions technology, and system dynamics models. He is a former Research Fellow at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at HARVARD Kennedy School. He is also a member of the Harvard Alumni for Climate and the Environment (HACE).

At Imperial, Alexandre was one of the lead modellers of the Global Calculator and has collaborated with other 2050 Calculator initiatives. He was the founder and first chairman of the Imperial College Brazil Forum and lectured in different postgraduate programmes at the College.

Before these academic experiences, Alexandre was Director and Head of the Department of Bioenergy at Brazil's Ministry of Agriculture (MAPA, 2005-2010) and a UNDP Consultant for Energy, Ozone, and Climate Change at Brazil's Ministry of the Environment (MMA, 2003-2005), participating in UNFCCC negotiations.

He is a Chartered Engineer (Agronomist), holding an MSc in Energy from the University of São Paulo (USP), with additional studies at IFP School in France and OECC in Japan. He also holds a PhD in Environmental Research from Imperial, with a postdoc in Sustainability Science at Harvard University.
