Dr. Arash S. Fallah joined Imperial College as a Research Student in Structures in 2003. Subsequent to completion of his PhD he was recruited by the College as a Research Associate in 2007, a position he held for 6 years before joining the the Mechatronics group at King's College London for a short period. He then returned to Imperial College to assume a research position in the Centre for Nuclear Engineering and subsequently was appointed a Lecturer in Aerostructures conducting research on and specialising in the mechanics of wind turbine composite blades. His primary research interest, however; has been computational and analytical modelling of blast and impact loaded monolithic, composite and hybrid structures and systems. These include fibre-reinforced plastic composites, fibre-metal laminates, hybrid perforated and protruded joints, metamaterials and lattices.
His research interests include: mechanics of composite wind turbine blades, assessment of blast and impact resistant structures, study of fracture in quasi-brittle materials using peridynamics, frequency filtering in phononic metamaterials, lattices and hyperlattices, extended finite element formulation of plated structures, damage and fracture in composites and constitutive visco-elastic, plastic and visco-plastic formulations for metals and composites.
He is currently a Professor of Applied Mechanics at Oslo Metropolitan University, Norway. He has been a Senior Lecturer in Vibration and Dynamics at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Brunel University London. He holds a Visiting Researcher position in Aeronautics at Imperial College. He has also been a Visiting Professor in Solid State Physics at National Technical University of Ukraine (NTUU) and is a Visiting Senior Research Consultant at Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW). He is a professional member of Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS) and a member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA).
