Atkinson C, 1979, STRESS SINGULARITIES AND FRACTURE MECHANICS., Appl Mech Rev, Vol: 32, Pages: 123-135, ISSN: 0003-6900
This review begins with a brief discussion of the well-known aspects of fracture mechanics and then surveys those areas where theoretical difficulties still remain and where distinctive qualitative behavior occurs in the stress analysis. Only peripheral mention is made of numerical methods or experimental results. The fracture mechanics specialist may feel that each section deserves a feature article of its own, and this may well be the case if the subject continues to grow as it has in the last thirteen years.
