Summary

I am involved in delivery of the MSc Metals and Energy Finance programme.  I deliver the Mineral Deposits Studies module in the Autumn term, and assist with the teaching of courses in financial evaluation and strategic management throughout the year.  

Previous Experience

I have over 20 years technical and commercial experience, mainly gained in the resources sector. I also have experience in investment banking (M&A), venture capital and Government policy development in the areas of science and innovation.

I have a BSc and PhD in Mining Geology from Imperial College, London, and an MBA from Melbourne Business School. I have worked as a mine and research geologist in the mining industry and also in new technology development, business improvement and financial analysis.  I began my career focused on mine geology and process mineralogy at the Olympic Dam mine in South Australia.  I then moved into more commercial roles including commercial management and business development for Rio Tinto, including a period as the Commercial Manager of the Hunter Valley coal mine in New South Wales, Australia.  My industry experience includes site-based, laboratory-based and head-office based roles for Rio Tinto (Australia & UK), Western Mining Corporation (Olympic Dam, Australia), Macquarie Bank (Australia), and the State Government of Victoria (Australia).

Current Focus

In my current role I have returned to my primary interest of economic geology and been able to bring my commercial experience to teaching all aspects of mineral deposit characterisation and extraction in the context of a rapidly changing attitude towards sustainability and growth.  At a technical level, I am particularly interested in the commercial implications of process mineralogy and geometallurgy.  I am passionate about promoting diversity in the mining industry having experienced first hand the challenges women (and other groups) face as they attempt to develop their careers.
