Summary

Research Interests

  1. Technologies, processes and methods for the recovery, utilization, conversion and storage of thermal energy for cooling, heating and power, novel 'total energy' integration schemes in high-efficiency systems with emphasis on low-grade waste heat, and solar-thermal energy utilization
  2. Thermodynamics of and fluid flow/heat transfer effects in devices, machines, heat exchangers and other components for thermal-energy recovery, utilization, conversion and storage
  3. Heat and fluid flows in energy systems, urban environments, physiological systems, etc., including turbulent, inhomogeneous (mixing), multiphase and reacting flows
  4. Development and application of advanced diagnostics: high resolution intrusive and non-intrusive (optical/laser-based) techniques for the measurement for velocity, turbulence, species, concentration, phase distribution, temperature, heat flux and reaction with Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV), Particle Tracking Velocimetry (PTV), Laser Induced Fluorescence (LIF) and related techniques
  5. Thermal energy storage and large-scale electrical energy storage via thermal processes
  6. Nuclear energy: thermohydraulics and thermodynamic power systems
  7. Autoignition, combustion and post-ignition flame propagation phenomena
  8. Gasification of heavy oil, and coal and syngas production
  9. Novel bioreactor design and bioreactor characterisation
