Summary

Summary

Dr Charalambos Michaeloudes is an Honorary Research Fellow at the Airway Disease Section of the National Heart and Lung Institute. His research aims to understand the cellular and molecular mechanisms leading to the development of airway remodelling in asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), in order to identify novel therapeutic targets for these diseases.

 Research interests:

  • Molecular mechanisms regulating the adaptation of airways to oxidative stress
  • Role of redox signalling in the development of airway remodelling
  • Mitochondrial dysfunction and metabolic re-programming in asthma and COPD
  • Molecular mechanisms of intracellular and intercellular mitochondrial movement

Dr Michaeloudes has received funding from the Imperial Centre for Translational and Experimental Medicine and the British Heart Foundation, and the European Respiratory Society.  He has published articles in leading medical and scientific journals and has given numerous talks at national and international conferences.

He serves as a manuscript reviewer for medical and scientific journals, a grant reviewer for national and international funding bodies, and as an abstract reviewer for the European Respiratory Society International Congress. He has also been invited as a member of the European Respiratory Society College of Experts.

Dr Michaeloudes teaches on undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and is a PhD co-supervisor.
