Summary

Catherine Mulligan is a Visiting Lecturer teaching the Elective "Digital Transformation: Leading Real-World Change" for the MBA program.

Cathy is an interdisciplinary researcher focusing on Digital technologies and Digital transformation from the perspectives of Computer Science and Economics.  Cathy has advised multiple governments, companies, and NGOs on Digital Transformation & Cryptocurrency / Blockchain.  She has held a lifetime research grant portfolio of £6.1 million and co-founded the Imperial College Centre for Cryptocurrency Research and Engineering – the world’s first academic centre on cryptocurrency and blockchain.

Cathy is a Fellow of the World Economic Forum and was a member of the United Nations Secretary General’s High-Level Panel on Digital Cooperation in 2019: https://www.un.org/en/sg-digital-cooperation-panel

Cathy has a PhD and MPhil in Engineering for Sustainable Development from the University of Cambridge.  Cathy has also had numerous corporate positions, advisory and Non-Exec roles, including CTO for a consulting company with a technical team of14,000 over North and West Europe.

Her research interests lie in the area of new economic structures enabled by the digital economy, in particular the role of cybersecurity and Distributed Ledger Technologies in the creation of trust in digitally-enabled industries, governments and in the creation of citizen-centric smart/sustainable cities.

Catherine has published several books, with topics ranging from mobile technologies to the evolution of innovation within the communications industries from 1960 through 2010.

Until December 2017, Cathy served as standardisation lead for the Open and Agile Smart Cities (OASC) Task Force and Vice Chairman of the ETSI ISG on Context Information Management.  She was also a Visiting Fellow at the Glasgow School of Art Institute for Design Innovation (INDI)
