Summary
Carsten is a postdoctoral research fellow working in the Complex Porous Media Lab and the Thermophysics Lab at the Department of Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London. He holds a Walter Benjamin Fellowship from the German Research Foundation (DFG). His current research focuses on measurements of thermophysical and transport properties of fluids as well as adsorption properties of gases in porous solids.
Research focus:
- Experimental investigation of adsorption equilibria and adsorption kinetics of unary gases (including CO2, H2, CH4) as well as dry and humid gas mixtures
- Speed of sound measurements in compressed hydrogen, helium, and refrigerants at pressures up to 100 MPa
- Viscosity and density measurements of biobased and synthetic liquid fuels, e.g., biodiesel components (FAME/FAEE), and polyoxymethylene dimethyl ethers (OME/PODE)
- Experimental investigation of asphaltene precipitation during CO2 geological storage in depleted oil reservoirs by applying optical metrology
- Applying Raman spectroscopy to investigate vapour-liquid equilibria
Carsten is one of the hosts of the Towards Net Zero (TNZ) seminar series at Imperial College, for which he is responsible to organise the monthly panel discussion events. Bringing together international highly acknowledged researchers and experts from industry as panellists, the discussion are an excellent opportunity for PhD students and Postdocs to get in touch which leaders in their field. He is also part of the Early Career Board of the Journal of Chemical and Engineering Data.
