Summary
Caroline is a Senior Lecturer in Environmental Social Science. Her research is highly interdisciplinary and focuses on exploring the relationship between people and nature and how these relationships influence the outcome and success of sustainable development policies through the underpinning interactions between biodiversity, ecosystem services, and human well-being. She is a Lead Author on the IPBES (Intergovernmental Panel on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services) Nexus Assessment 2022-24 and a Contributing Author on the Global Assessment on Ecosystem Services 2017-2018, as well as a co-author for the ESPA (Ecosystem Services for Poverty Alleviation) textbook on Ecosystem Services and Human Wellbeing: Trade-Offs and Governance and an invited speaker at the UN on Mainstreaming Biodiversity in the Context of Human Security and Well-being. She has lead a GCRF British Academy Sustainable Development Programme exploring the role the concepts of dignity and heritage play in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals in Tanzanian Pastoralist communities.
Caroline is leading the M.O.U. between Imperial College and the United Nations Environmental Management Group (UNEMG), which focuses on the role that Imperial College can play in providing scientific support to the UN on issues surrounding biodiversity and human well-being and the SDGs, and the role of the UN EMG in facilitating the implementation of policy outcomes from Imperial College research. Caroline has also participated in the Manchester Soapbox Science Event, a public engagement event aimed at raising the profile of women in science. In 2019, she Chaired the Athena SWAN Committee within CEP and lead a successful application for a Bronze Award, She is also a member of the Imperial College FoNS Diversity and Equality Committee. In her teaching roles she is the Deputy Director of the the MSc in Environmental Technology. She currently supervises 8 PhD students.
