Summary

Materials 2 - MECH50005

Aims

Provides the tools and understanding to predict component failures under multiaxial loading

conditions due to yielding, fracture, fatigue and creep mechanisms, to identify these failure mechanisms in practice, and to design against them.

ECTS units: 5

Role

Course Leader

Fracture Mechanics A - MECH60002

Aims

  • To develop an understanding of the various aspects involved in the area of fracture mechanics
  • To develop from first principles the basic ideas and equations needed for an understanding of fracture mechanics
  • To define the advantages and disadvantages of this approach for studying the failure of materials and structures
  • To indicate how the basic principles may be applied to a range of industrial problems and materials.

ECTS units:    5

Role

Course Leader

Aircraft Engine Technology - MECH97084

Aims

  • To extend the principles of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and structural analysis to the design of an axial-flow jet engine
  • To develop an appreciation for aircraft powerplant design in the context of the duty and mission of a civil or combat aircraft
  • To provide an industrial context by a visit (if possible) to Rolls-Royce.

ECTS units:    10

Role

Lecturer

Aircraft Engine Technology - MECH70021
