Summary
Dr Craig Buchanan is a Senior Lecturer in Construction in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Imperial College London, Director of the Robotic Additive Manufacturing Lab and a group leader in the Data Centric Engineering programme at the Alan Turing Institute, the UK’s data science institute.
His research covers the testing, numerical simulation and development of design guidance for conventionally produced and 3D printed metallic hollow structural sections. Craig is also working on the MX3D Bridge, the world’s first metal 3D printed pedestrian bridge.
Craig has worked as a structural engineer on projects for Highways England, London Underground and Crossrail.
He is a former Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) Quest scholar and past winner of the 2012 Sparkes-Pippard Award, 2015 Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) Young Researchers’ Conference and the 2018 Unwin Prize.
Craig has co-supervised a number of undergraduate and postgraduate student research projects, and has peer reviewed submissions for technical journals and industry publications. He is a graduate member of the ICE and IStructE.
