Professor Dorothy (Dot) Griffiths was formerly Deputy Dean and then Dean of the Business School. Following her retirement from the Business School in 2013 she was appointed as the Provost’s Envoy for Gender Equality, a role she held until 2017. She has been the Chair of Central North West London NHS Foundation Trust since 2014. In 2019 she was appointed to the Council of the University of Bath.
Professor Griffiths received a BSc in Sociology from the University of London, and an MSc in Sociology of Science and Technology from the University of Bath. She joined Imperial College in 1969 and has held visiting positions at a number of other universities.
She has consulted widely in the area of Human Resource Management for major international organisations. Her interests were in the area of talent acquisition and talent development. She also worked on quality measures for HR performance and undertook executive coaching.
She has a long term interest in the position of women in management, science and technology and led a number of activities in this area on behalf of Imperial College. More recently she has been involved in the review of the Athena SWAN scheme. She was a founding editor of Feminist Review and is now Chair of the Feminist Review Trust.
Dot is a member of the Higher Education Academy. In 2004 she was elected a Fellow of the City and Guilds of London Institute (FCGI). In 2010 she was awarded an OBE for Services to Higher Education and made a Fellow of the RSA.
Professor Griffiths has written and co-authored numerous articles for international publications and academic collections. She has also acted as a consultant to a number of public sector and private sector organisations.
