Summary
David Lloyd Smith is Professor of Structural Mechanics and Head of the Systems and Mechanics Section of the Department. His primary research is in Structural Mechanics, mainly in respect of the plastic behaviour of structures under static and dynamic loading. Another research activity is that concerned with the analysis of masonry bridges and related construction. He is author or co-author of seventy research papers and supervisor or co-supervisor of some fifteen PhD graduates.
In addition to this, he is one of five College Tutors having general responsibility for Pastoral Care and Discipline of students.
