Summary

In early 2016, I moved from my role as a Clinical Lecturer in Surgery at Imperial to work at DeepMind. I went on to lead DeepMind Health before our team joined Google Health in late 2019, where I serve as the UK Lead.

I continue as an Honorary Clinical Lecturer at Imperial, supervising PhD students and contributing to applied research at the Institute of Global Health Innovation. This includes developing an AI system for breast cancer screening in conjunction with Google Health that was published in Nature in early 2020.

Personal highlights from my time at Imperial that continue to shape my work include;

  • As part of my PhD, I co-authored the Cabinet Office Mindspace report, which provides a framework for designing effective public policy utilising the latest insights from behavioural economics. Mindspace was used as the initial operating framework for the work of the Behavioural Insights Team, established by Prime Minister David Cameron.
  • I co-founded the HELIX Centre, a joint initiative between Imperial and the Royal College of Art and the first design centre in a European hospital.
  • I developed a research programme in digital health leading the development of over a dozen digital health platforms. I co-founded Hark, a clinical task management platform that was acquired by Google in 2016
