Summary

Since 2017, Efstratios (Stratis) Batzelis is a Marie-Curie Individual Fellow in Control & Power group of the Electrical & Electronic Engineering department. As part of his fellowship project “PVCI - Photovoltaic Control & Integration”, he investigates methods to make the solar photovoltaic (PV) systems more “grid-friendly” and increase the solar integration levels to the power system.

Prior to this appointment, he worked as a Research Associate in the same group as part of the “JUICE – Joint UK-India Clean Energy Centre” consortium (27 universities and 17 industry partners in the UK and India) investigating the solar integration challenges. In 2016, he held a postdoctoral fellowship at National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), Greece, carrying out research on his project “Photovoltaic systems: Modern challenges”. As a PhD student, he worked in the “ANTI-SiC project” at NTUA and co-developed a 5kW PV grid-tie inverter.

Stratis was awarded his PhD in modelling and control of PV systems from NTUA in 2016, the MSc degree in energy production and management from NTUA in 2012, and the MEng degree in electrical engineering from Technical University of Crete, Greece, in 2009.

His current research interests include renewable energy technologies and distributed generation, especially solar photovoltaics, power converters control and power system operation.
