Summary

Elizabeth Dubois is a Research Associate in the Department of Primary Care and Public Health (DPCPH). She joined ICL in 2009 and in 2018 completed her PhD in Clinical Medicine Research (public health). 

Background

Elizabeth's formal training is in health economics. She earned an MSc in Health Policy (2000) from the London School of Economics and a BA in economics (1999) from France. She trained as a registered nurse in America (BSc, 1991) and worked as a researcher at the National Institutes of Health in genetic therapies. Her clinical experience includes paediatric oncology/bone marrow transplant, adult cardiology, and diabetes. She is also a public health nurse specialist. Early in her professional career, she established a national health policy infrastructure at the Ministry of Health of Bahrain and began her commitment to the World Health Organisation (WHO). Returning to Europe, she continues her international work with the WHO Collaborating Centre for Health Education and Training in ICL's DPCPH.

Elizabeth became a Fellow of the UK Royal Society for Public Health in 2009 and a Member through Distinction of the UK Faculty of Public Health in 2012.

Research

Elizabeth’s research interests include health systems based on primary care, chronic disease management, health care organisation and service delivery. The focus of her doctoral research explored workforce evaluation of the England's NHS Health Checks in primary care. Her work also extends to the assessment of global primary care systems. 

Teaching

At Imperial College her teaching experience includes lecturer, assessor and tutor for the MSc global health module and the BSc in Undergraduate Public Health Education. She has supervised research projects for PhD students, public health trainees and visiting fellows. In 2019 she qualified as a STEM Youth Ambassador for ICL's school outreach programme (students from under-represented backgrounds). Since 2020 she is an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Also that year she was recognised by Imperial College President's Awards for Outstanding Assistant Supervisor.

Training

Elizabeth has authored training modules in primary care in family medicine (post-graduate diploma curriculum), designed learning modules for WHO health systems development and WHO Geneva on smoking cessation and brief interventions. She established an academic exchange programme with Carinthia University of Applied Health Science (Austria). 

About her

Outside of academic work Elizabeth enjoys swimming, Formula 1 and gardening. She is an avid reader (history and non-fiction) and happiest spending time outdoors. She also a new proud parent.

With over 20 years of international public health experience, she is passionate about using her economic and clinical skills to improve lives through research, education, and service to primary care-based health systems.
