Summary

Dr. Emrys Jones gained his Ph.D. on the topic of biological imaging mass spectrometry from the University of Manchester, where the main focus was on secondary ion mass spectrometry for drug molecule detection in tissue sections. 

Following a period developing applications for MALDI-MS imaging in parallell with PET studies of animal models of neurological disease at the Wolfson Molecular Imaging Centre in Manchester, he moved to Leiden University Medical Centre to continue MALDI-MS imaging research, focussing mainly on protein and endogenous metabolite mapping in tumour tissue. A large portion of the work was in the introduction of new computational and bioinformatic approaches to handle the vast amounts of data generated from these experiments. 

Currently working in the group of Zoltan Takats, Emrys is involved in the  development of both DESI and REIMS techniques, with the main focus being on increasing the application range of the iKnife technology.
