AB - The preparation of 9,10dicyanoanthracene triflates is reported. Taking advantage of the high reactivity of these precursors in Suzuki coupling reactions, sterically hindered substituents were introduced. The impact of the substituents on the crystallographic and photophysical properties was investigated. The results highlight the usefulness of the new triflate derivatives and the substituents for the development of 9,10dicyanoanthracenebased materials.
