Summary

After a Master's degree in Theoretical Physics from the University of Salerno, with a focus on Statistical Mechanics, Ferdinando received his PhD in Mathematics from Imperial College London. He was a President's PhD Scholar in the Systems and Signals group, supervised by Professor Nick Jones.

During his PhD, Ferdinando worked on stochastic modelling for mitochondrial genomics and muscle ageing. He also worked with the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) within the SIREN study, developing statistical models of vaccine effectiveness and serological data, contributing to the national response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ferdinando continued at Imperial Mathematics as a Research Associate with Professor Jones and joined the MRC Mitochondrial Biology Unit at the University of Cambridge, in the group of Professor Patrick Chinnery, on a joint 5-year position funded by the Wellcome Trust.

Ferdinando is currently working on the analysis and statistical modelling of genomic and transcriptomic data from single-cell experiments, investigating the interplay between mitochondrial genomics and ageing/neurodegeneration. He continues his collaboration with the UKHSA as a statistical consultant.
