I am the Director of the Science Communication Unit where I teach media theory and science journalism. My research interests include the popularisation of physics, science journalism and other aspects of the science/public interface. 

I joined the Science Communication Unit at Imperial in 2001. I have a PhD in theoretical physics from Newcastle University and was a lecturer in astronomy at Sussex University before deciding to focus on critical analyses of science.

Current research interests

  • the role of narrative in science and popular science
  • the ideological nature of science journalism
