Dr. Fan Shi's main research is in ultrasonic Nondestructive evaluation, with emphasis on wave theory, numerical modelling and related inverse methods. He has a strong motivation to solve real engineering problems from industry by investigating fundamental wave phenomena and transferring academic outputs into real applications.
Fan has been working on elastic wave surface scattering problems, with focus on statistical scattering from randomly rough surfaces/interfaces by developing both advanced numerical methods and theoretical approaches. His recent work involve inverse methods in rough surface scattering, diffraction from rough crack tips, advanced ultrasonic imaging methods for tomography, and modelling of waves in rocks. Besides, He also conducts technical consultancy of ultrasonic inspections for nuclear industries.
