Aims

To give students computing skills in data manipulation, graphics and literature searching that will facilitate their studies and provide transferable skills usable after their degree.

Programming for Geoscientists (Yr 1) - ESE-UG2.18

Aims

The course will teach the fundamentals of computer programming: variables; conditional statements; loops; execution through the Python language. Students will develop knowledge of basic algorithms and their implementation, e.g.: data processing; curve fitting and plotting; sequences and differential equations; Monte Carlo.

Skills developed will include problem solving and algorithm development: starting with a natural language description of a problem and breaking it down to a discrete set of tasks to reach a solution.
