Gianmarco Mengaldo obtained his BSc and MSc in Aerospace Engineering at Politecnico di Milano. He did his final year project at MOX (part of the Department of Mathematics at Politecnico di Milano) on "Nonlinear Fluid-Structure Interaction with application in Haemodynamics" with Prof. Luca Formaggia and Dr. Fabio Nobile. After his graduation he worked for three months in the CMCS group headed by Prof. Alfio Quarteroni at EPFL (Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne). He was also student team leader of the propulsion group for the ESA mission ESMO (European Student Moon Orbiter).

In 2011 Gianmarco Mengaldo joined the Department of Aeronautics at Imperial College London. He is currently a PhD student under the supervision of Prof. Spencer Sherwin and Dr. Tamer Zaki and he is part of the  LFC-UK group funded by EPSRC, Airbus and EADS-IW and based in the Department of Mathematics.

His main interests involve scientific computing and numerical analysis with particular attention to fluid mechanics and fluid-structure interaction problems. In the LFC-UK group he is working on the development of a high-order numerical approach, namely the flux reconstruction approach, to deal with compressible flow simulations and to analyse the boundary-layer transition process and the main flow instabilities over wings.
