Summary

Holly Walder is a PhD student funded through the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Health Protection Research Unit (HPRU) in Chemical and Radiation Threats and Hazards (CRTH) linked with the MRC Centre for Environment and Health.

Her research investigates the potential chemical exposures on populations surrounding former manufactured gasworks undergoing redevelopment. This includes conducting residential, ambient and personal exposure assessments by developing low-cost passive samplers and untargeted analysis on volatile and semi-volatile organic compounds. Internal biomarkers of exposure and response in vulnerable populations will be investigated based on the results of the monitoring campaigns. This project will incorporate public engagement and community involvement.

Her PhD is supervised by Dr Ian Mudway, Dr Leon Barron and Dr Tim Marczylo
