Summary
I lead a programme of research examining the health of various working populations, with a particular focus on how occupational exposures affect respiratory health and how respiratory disease can impact on an individual’s capacity to work. My research is informed by my clinical role as lead of the largest occupational lung disease service in the UK and which includes a specialist occupational and environmental laboratory.
Current research projects:
1. The health of laboratory scientists and the epidemiology of occupational allergy
2. The immunology of animal allergy
3. The cardiorespiratory and cancer risks of firefighting.
4. Silicosis and silicotuberculosis in small scale miners in sub-Saharan Africa
5. Health effects of exposure to Tunnel Dust in subway workers
6. Work participation in people with long term physical health conditions
