Jun is a post-doctoral researcher in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering working on digital structure design and additive manufacturing and their applications in Civil and Structural Engineering. He obtained his PhD at the University of Sheffield working on Steel Structure Design and a Master in Spatial Structures at Zhejiang University, China. Before joining Imperial College London, he worked on an EPSRC funded project as a research associate at the Group of Digital Architectonics in the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering at the University of Bath, where he developed research on Parametric Structure Design/Optimisation and Computer Graphics. His principal research interest includes the development of new computer-based tools for both architects and engineers to help with the creation, optimisation, realisation/construction of buildings with complex geometry. In parallel he maintains his research in the field of theoretical and experimental study on the fundamental behaviour and design of steel/composite structures, subjected to normal and extreme loading events. His research has led to more sustainable designs of building structures in terms of material saving and geometric modelling.
Jun is interested in and dedicated to Engineering Education, he believes that well-designed education can help our society to shape more innovative engineers with critical thinking to provide better solutions to practical problems. He has been involved in the teaching of Computer-Aided Design, Steel/Composite Structures, Computer Programming like Python/Matlab in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Design and Technology (Design Studio), Structural analysis and so on. As module leader, he has been nominated as outstanding teaching award and some of the final year research projects he supervised won national awards in the UK.
Jun is a first-class Registered Engineer in China and he has been actively involved in the activities in the Institutions of Civil and Structural Engineers, he is working hard to be a member and a Charted Engineer at the Institutions of Civil and Structural Engineers.
