Summary

Jen Lee is a research assistant in the Muscle Gene Expression group within Molecular Medicine section of the National Heart and Lung Institute (NHLI).

Before coming to Imperial, Jen studied Biochemistry at Bristol University.  In 2008, she was awarded a studentship funded by the Medical Research Council to study chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), with which she undertook the Masters in Biomedical Research in October 2008 followed by her PhD which she is started in October 2009.

Jen is interested in studying signalling pathways involved in muscle wasting in COPD. The focus of Jen's PhD has been the role of the TGF-β superfamily members and autophagy in skeletal muscle wasting.

In 2012, Jen was awarded a MRC Centenary Early Career Award to continue the work examining TGF-β family ligands and muscle wasting. She is currently undertaking another project as a research assistant examining the role of microRNAs in COPD muscle wasting.
