2014 - IMechE MediMaton Best Recent Medical Engineering PhD Thesis (United Kingdom). 

The EMHD Annual Medical and Health Engineering Student Project Competition is the foremost medical engineering student project competition in the UK and provides an opportunity for students across a wide variety of disciplines to present their work.

2013 - ERCOFTAC Osborne Reynolds Research Student Award (United Kingdom).   

The annual Osborne Reynolds Research Student Award is organised by the ERCOFTAC UK Pilot Centre and was launched in 2002. The Award recognises the quality of young Researchers studying applied fluid dynamics in the UK and their ability to communicate their work.

2009 - Science, Engineering and Technology Best Mechanical Engineering Student (British Isles). 

The Science, Engineering & Technology Student of the Year Awards were presented to outstanding undergraduate students in the United Kingdom. Awards reflected the range of Science, Engineering & Technology degrees offered by UK and Irish Universities.

2009 - King’s College London Graduate School PhD Studentship.

Joseph was the first engineering student at King's to be awarded this prestigious studentship. 

2005 to 2009 - 12 Undergraduate Prizes, including IMechE Project Prize, KCLEA Medal, IMechE Best Student Prize and Frederick Barnes Waldron Best Student Prize (King’s College London).

Annual prizes awarded for top exam marks and/or best research projects.
