My PhD focuses on the links between HIV, mental health, and quality of life in sub-Saharan Africa.

Using data from a long-running cohort study in Manicaland, Zimbabwe, I am examining associations between depression, HIV transmission and HIV care outcomes. I will use my results to inform mathematical modelling of the impact of a problem-solving therapy for depression on the HIV epidemic in Manicaland.

As well as analyses focusing on Zimbabwe, I have also used quantitative data from a large cluster randomised trial in South Africa and Zambia (HPTN 071: PopART) to explore the effect of universal test and treat policies on quality of life among people living with HIV.

This work is under the supervision of Dr Katharina Hauck, Professor Simon Gregson, and Dr Michael Pickles.

My other current work involves analysing data related to hypertension among people living with HIV. Through a comprehensive systematic review and meta-analysis, and assessment of data from the Manicaland cohort study, I am exploring whether people living with HIV experience a higher burden of hypertension. This project is under the supervision of Professor Simon Gregson and Dr Mikaela Smit.
