Summary

Dr Konstantinos Kouloulias received his diploma in Mechanical Engineering (MEng) from National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) in 2011, majoring in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation in hydraulic systems. After completing his military service in Greece in 2012, he was appointed as Research Associate at the Sustainable Energy Research Laboratory (SERL) at Texas A&M University at Qatar. His research focused on CFD development and simulation in solar thermochemical reactors. In December 2013, he joined Imperial College London to commence his Ph.D. (CASE award), focusing on the development and implementation of laser diagnostic techniques in nanofluids. His Ph.D. was funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) in the U.K. and the Culham Centre of Fusion Energy (CCFE). In 2017, he completed his Ph.D. following the successful defence (no corrections) of his thesis entitled “Natural Convection and Pool Boiling Studies of Nanofluids”. Dr Kouloulias was awarded the EPSRC Doctoral Prize Fellowship that helps universities retain and recruit the best PhD students receiving EPSRC support to increase the impact of their PhD, and to improve retention of the very best students in research careers. At his current role, he investigates the heat and mass properties of nanofluids under extreme boiling conditions and critical heat flux (CHF), in an attempt to evaluate the applicability of nanofluids to cooling applications. Alongside his primary role, Konstantinos is involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, Ph.D. and MSc student supervision.
