Summary
Kieran obtained his PhD in malaria immunity from Imperial College London in 2001. He began research into acute inflammation and organ injury during sepsis at the Kennedy Institute for Rheumatology and then Chelsea Westminster Hospital, Imperial College Campus. He has published a broad range of articles related to sepsis and severe burns injury, particularly on the role of monocytes as orchestrators of acute lung injury. His research is currently focussed on the emerging roles of extracellular vesicles in critical care-related disease, investigating the intravascular trafficking of microvesicles and their contribution to acute lung injury.
He is a course organiser and lecturer in the intercalated medical Anaesthesia and Critical Care specialty BSc.
