My research focuses on the use of mathematical modelling of infectious disease transmission to understand how diseases spread and inform control policies.
I currently hold a Wellcome Trust ISSF Springboard Fellowship to characterize and model the relationship between socio-economic status and infectious disease risk in the UK, with a particular focus on HIV and COVID-19.
Prior to my fellowship, I worked for the HIV Prevention Trials Network (HPTN) Modelling Centre, using mathematical modelling of HIV transmission amongst key populations (including men who have sex with men) to inform and interpret clinical trials being developed and conducted by the HPTN.
I did my PhD at the University of Edinburgh, modelling immune responses to human schistosomiasis infection at the population level. I then worked at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, modelling HIV and STI transmission and control amongst key populations in southern India, China and Nigeria.
I teach on the short course Introduction to Mathematical Models of the Epidemiology & Control of Infectious Diseases, the Master of Public Health (MPH) and the MSc in Epidemiology.
