Dr Klementyna Gawecka’s research interests lie in the fields of Computational Geomechanics and Energy Geotechnics, in particular modelling of coupled thermo-hydro-mechanical problems.
During her PhD, she developed and implemented a new constitutive model into the Imperial College Finite Element Program (ICFEP), capable of simulating the effects of temperature changes on the behaviour of saturated soils. As part of her research, she also developed numerical tools which enable modelling of ground source energy systems.
Since then, her research has focused on studying non-isothermal soil-structure interactions and investigating the thermal, as well as geotechnical, performance of geothermal energy systems through numerical analysis. This work is with a view to system the design and successful implementation of geothermal structures in the built environment.
