Summary
Dr Laura Collopy is a Senior Teaching Fellow in the Faculty of Medicine for the MSc Genomic Medicine. She leads the modules Fundamentals of Human Genetics and Genomics, Genomics of Common and Rare Inherited Diseases and Ethical, Legal and Social Issues in Applied Genomics, whilst teaching across the rest of the course and being involved in curriculum development, assessment and student support.
Dr Collopy was formerly a Teaching Fellow in the BSc Medicine Biosciences course, which launched in September 2017. In this role she has taught on a variety of modules across the programme, and has been involved with many aspects of the development of the course.
She was the Deputy Module Lead for the Genetics and Genomics module in the second year. Laura also taught n the second year 'Lab Pod' module, supervising students as they develop and research a novel hypothesis in the lab. Her role involved supporting the course during a transition to hybrid teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic, where the cohort of 170 students were taught half online and half in-person.
Laura was also the Year 2-3 Transitions lead, supporting second year students as they develop professionalism skills and prepare for their final year dissertation project. This role has involved developing training workshops and producing a podcast to help students evaluate and manage their third year expectations.
Laura acts as a personal tutor, supporting students both academically and personally during the course of the degree.
