Summary

Linda Stringer joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering in 2015 as a Senior Teaching Fellow and is currently Undergraduate Admissions Tutor.

She graduated in Mathematics from Oxford University in 1989 and then trained and worked as a well engineer for Shell. The two year training period involved working on offshore and land drilling rigs whilst completing the Round 2 Well Engineering exams. She designed and was the drilling operations engineer for onshore extended-reach gas production wells in the Netherlands. A move to the UK then involved working for Shell UK in multidisciplinary teams evaluating new business opportunities and also on joint ventures.

Following a career break Linda returned to Mathematics and was awarded an MSc from the University of Western Australia, and then a PhD in a combinatorial question in group theory from Royal Holloway (2009). Whilst at Royal Holloway she completed the InSTiL Teaching Certificate.

Other previous employments include maths lecturer to international students at INTO City University and managing the finances for a petroleum engineering consultancy.
