I am a Professor in Mental Health Research in the Centre for Psychiatry. I also work as an Honorary Consultant Psychiatrist at the Waterview Centre a specialist service for people with personality disorder provided by Central & North West London NHS Foundation Trust.
I trained in psychiatry at the Royal Free and Maudsley Hospital and in epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Following this I completed an MD on the management of suicidal behaviour.
My primary academic interest is in mental health services research. I am involved in the development and evaluation of psychosocial interventions for people with complex mental health needs such as those with personality disorder and psychoses. Current projects include clinical trials of lamotrigine for people with borderline personality disorder and low intensity psycholsocial interventions.
I also work for the Royal College of Psychiatrists as the Director of the Centre for Quality Improvement. This involves helping run national mental health audits, quality networks and accreditation programmes aimed at improving the quality of mental health services.
