Mr Michael F Pearse
Clinical Senior Lecturer and Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon
Michael Pearse received initial orthopaedic training in Exeter before being appointed ARC Clinical Fellow at Bristol University under Professor Louis performing clinical research into osteoarthritis and osteonecrosis of the hip joint. He later become a Senior Registrar in The West of England and in 1994 he was appointed Senior Lecturer and consultant orthopaedic surgeon at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School. Mr Pearse gained specialist orthopaedic experience as Associate Professor in orthopaedic trauma and limb reconstruction at Hermann Hospital, Houston, Texas in 1995. He became clinical senior lecturer at Imperial College in 2003 and he is head of orthopaedic trauma at Imperial NHS Trust.
Michael Pearse has specialist interests within both trauma and elective orthopaedics. Working closely with Professor Nanchahal plastic surgeon, he established one of the first national centres for the treatment of severe open limb injuries at Charing Cross Hospital in 1996. Mr Pearse has undertaken experimental and clinical research on the management of severe limb trauma, publishing original research as well as review articles and meta-analyses. He is an active member of the British Limb Reconstruction Society and undertakes specialist limb reconstruction work, correcting the damage caused by trauma, such as infection, non-union and deformity.
Michael Pearse also has an elective orthopaedic practise based at Central Middlesex hospital. He has extensive experience in hip joint disorders and he has particular expertise in the Exeter School of primary and revision hip joint arthroplasty. Specialist experience in Sickle Cell Disease was gained after receiving a Guinness Fellowship to visit the Sickle Cell Clinic in Mona Hospital, Jamaica in 1997.
Mr Pearse has published widely on hip disorders including osteonecrosis of the femoral head and he has published a number of articles on Foot and Ankle disorders.
His work on the treatment of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome at Charing Cross hospital was recently shortlisted for a prestigious Health Service Journal award (2010)
