Summary

Background

I received my BSc degree in 2000 in Mechanical Engineering from Amirkabir University of Technology supervised by late Prof. HR Daghyani. Between 2000 and 2004, I worked as a Research Engineer at IKCO where I was involved in research and development work on a number of projects for automotive industry. I returned to academia in 2004 and joined the School of Engineering and Design, Brunel University to do my MPhil in Medical Engineering, supervised by Prof. W Balachandran and Dr P Slijepcevic. I did my PhD in Medical Physics in the School of Medicine, Swansea University, supervised by Prof. H Griffiths and Dr PD Ledger. After completing my PhD in 2010, I joined National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London, as a Research Associate where I currently work with Prof. Darrel Francis.

Research Interests

Medical imaging; Image reconstruction (Discrete inverse problems); Image processing; Scientific computing; GPU programming; Numerical methods (Finite element and Finite difference).

Active research

My current research interests centre on ultrasound imaging and echocardiography:

  • Speckle tracking in echocardiography
  • Cardiac Strain Imaging (Elastography)
  • Real-time image processing
  • Parallel processing, GPU programming

Completed research

  • Magnetic induction tomography for brain imaging
  • Diagnostic microchips for point-of-care analysis
  • Diamond-like Carbon Coating (DLC)

Recognition and Awards

  • Biography appeared in Marquis Who's Who in the World 2011 for achievements in the field of Medical Imaging
  • Article published in Physiological Measurements selected as highlight of 2010
  • EPSRC PhD scholarship (2007-2010)
  • NHS Trust studentship (2007-2010)
  • WestFocus MPhil scholarship (2005-2007)

Professional Activities

In the News

  • Magnetic measurements home in on stroke, medicalphysicsweb (IOP), Aug 25, 2010
  • Simulation of Haemorrhagic Stroke Detection using MIT, Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM) Scope magazine (to appear)

Other Activities

In the copious time remaining, I like to jog and play gentle tennis.
