Summary

Electrochemical Characterisation

Development of new cell-level electrochemical characterisation techniques and data analysis methods. These include:

  • improved design of experiments for parameterisation of empirical models (equivalent circuit models)
  • Methods for characterising the kinetic behaviour of lithium-ion batteries
  • Degradation diagnostic techniques to identify the causes of battery ageing

Lithium-Ion Battery Degradation

show research

Performing large-scale degradation studies of commercial lithium-ion cells, from initial design of experiments all the way through to data analysis and visualisation.

  • Controlling how a cell ages through careful experimental design
  • Building bespoke equipment for accurate control of experimental variables
  • Automating analysis of large datasets
  • Applying new analysis techniques to gain deeper understanding of the causes of degradation, and how they can be mitigated
