Dr Olga Kuzmina is a FoNS Safety Manager.
Olga has been working at Imperial since June 2013 when she joined Prof Welton's research group in the Department of Chemistry as a PDRA. She has been conducting research using ionic liquids and managing the health and safety requirements of the research lab. Dr Olga Kuzmina tutored Physical Chemistry and Inorganic Chemistry for 1st year undergraduate students, was a Teaching Assistant for Imperial Horizons and a STEM Ambassador and a CREST Mentor. Olga has moved across to Imperial Professional Family as Faculty Safety Adviser in December 2016. She has been promoted to Faculty Safety Manager after Summer Job Level Review in 2018 as a recognition of her input in FoNS H&S team management and contribution to Chemistry Department relocation project.
Olga was recognised with a "40under40" award as a leading early-to-mid-career safety specialist in 2018 and in 2019 her team was recognised for their exemplary management of health and safety at the Provost’s Awards for Excellence in Health and Safety. Olga was a leading editor for the RSC publication Challenges for Health and Safety in Higher Education and Research Organisations (2020).
Prior to this, Olga has held positions as a Development Chemist at ICI / AzkoNobel Paints, as a Project Manager and a Researcher at the Institute of Biopolymers and Chemical Fibres in Poland, and as a Process Engineer at the Factory "Svetlana" in Russia.
Olga holds a Master degree in Chemical Engineering from the St Petersburg State University of Technology and Design and a PhD in Chemistry from the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena in Germany.
Olga is Senior Mentor for Membership and Accredited Recognition Scheme (MARS) and RSC Early Career Network Regional Representative for Chilterns & Middlesex.
