Pelin Boyacioglu is a Research Associate/Railway Asset Management Specialist in the Transport Strategy Centre (TSC) at Imperial College London.  At the TSC, Pelin has worked on benchmarking of rail systems particularly in metros around the world. She particularly analyses the operating, inspection and maintenance practices with in-depth focus on asset management.

Pelin has more than 10 years of experience in railways, which started with Marmaray Project in Istanbul/Turkey. She was primarily responsible for trackworks and drainage, quality management of materials and the track interfaces with other sub-systems. She later conducted her PhD with the opportunity of scholarship awarded by the Institute of Railway Research (IRR) / University of Huddersfield and Rail Safety and Standards Board. In her PhD research, the rail damage in London Underground infrastructure was mainly analysed and a new prediction model was developed in order to support the planning of maintenance activities.

In her subsequent experiences in IRR and Ricardo Rail, she continued to carry out several projects for rail industry in which the issues and problems generated during railway operations and maintenance were investigated, related causal factors were identified, and mitigation measures were provided. She also took part in the safety certification assessments under Notified Body and Common Safety Method for Risk Evaluation and Assessment projects for both new infrastructures and rolling stocks.

Pelin graduated with a double major from Civil and Geomatics Engineering in Yildiz Technical University and did her MSc degree in Transportation and Traffic Engineering in Bogazici University (Istanbul/Turkey).
