Khachatryan V, Sirunyan AM, Tumasyan A, et al., 2014, Searches for electroweak neutralino and chargino production in channels with Higgs, Z, and W bosons in pp collisions at 8 TeV, Physical Review D, Vol: 90, ISSN: 1550-7998
Searches for supersymmetry (SUSY) are presented based on the electroweak pair production of neutralinos and charginos, leading to decay channels with Higgs, Z, and W bosons and undetected lightest SUSY particles (LSPs). The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of about 19.5 fb−1 of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV collected in 2012 with the CMS detector at the LHC. The main emphasis is neutralino pair production in which each neutralino decays either to a Higgs boson (h) and an LSP or to a Z boson and an LSP, leading to hh, hZ, and ZZ states with missing transverse energy (EmissT). A second aspect is chargino-neutralino pair production, leading to hW states with EmissT. The decays of a Higgs boson to a bottom-quark pair, to a photon pair, and to final states with leptons are considered in conjunction with hadronic and leptonic decay modes of the Z and W bosons. No evidence is found for supersymmetric particles, and 95% confidence level upper limits are evaluated for the respective pair production cross sections and for neutralino and chargino mass values.

A search for neutral Higgs bosons in the minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model (MSSM) decaying to tau-lepton pairs in pp collisions is performed, using events recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC. The dataset corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 24.6 fb−1, with 4.9 fb−1 at 7 TeV and 19.7 fb−1 at 8 TeV. To enhance the sensitivity to neutral MSSM Higgs bosons, the search includes the case where the Higgs boson is produced in association with a b-quark jet. No excess is observed in the tau-lepton-pair invariant mass spectrum. Exclusion limits are presented in the MSSM parameter space for different benchmark scenarios, m maxh, m mod +h, m mod −h, light-stop, light-stau, τ-phobic, and low-m H. Upper limits on the cross section times branching fraction for gluon fusion and b-quark associated Higgs boson production are also given.

Khachatryan V, Sirunyan AM, Tumasyan A, et al., 2014, Observation of the diphoton decay of the Higgs boson and measurement of its properties, EUROPEAN PHYSICAL JOURNAL C, Vol: 74, ISSN: 1434-6044
Observation of the diphoton decay mode of the recently discovered Higgs boson and measurement of some of its properties are reported. The analysis uses the entire dataset collected by the CMS experiment in proton-proton collisions during the 2011 and 2012 LHC running periods. The data samples correspond to integrated luminosities of 5.1fb-1at s√=7TeV and 19.7fb-1at 8TeV . A clear signal is observed in the diphoton channel at a mass close to 125GeV with a local significance of 5.7σ, where a significance of 5.2σ is expected for the standard model Higgs boson. The mass is measured to be 124.70±0.34GeV=124.70±0.31(stat)±0.15(syst)GeV , and the best-fit signal strength relative to the standard model prediction is 1.14+0.26−0.23=1.14±0.21(stat) +0.09−0.05(syst) +0.13−0.09(theo). Additional measurements include the signal strength modifiers associated with different production mechanisms, and hypothesis tests between spin-0 and spin-2 models.

Chatrchyan S, Khachatryan V, Sirunyan AM, et al., 2014, Search for invisible decays of Higgs bosons in the vector boson fusion and associated ZH production modes, European Physical Journal C: Particles and Fields, Vol: 74, ISSN: 1124-1861
A search for invisible decays of Higgs bosons is performed using the vector boson fusion and associated ZH production modes. In the ZH mode, the Z boson is required to decay to a pair of charged leptons or a bb¯¯¯ quark pair. The searches use the 8┬áTeV pp collision dataset collected by the CMS detector at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of up to 19.7┬áfb−1. Certain channels include data from 7┬áTeV collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.9┬áfb−1. The searches are sensitive to non-standard-model invisible decays of the recently observed Higgs boson, as well as additional Higgs bosons with similar production modes and large invisible branching fractions. In all channels, the observed data are consistent with the expected standard model backgrounds. Limits are set on the production cross section times invisible branching fraction, as a function of the Higgs boson mass, for the vector boson fusion and ZH production modes. By combining all channels, and assuming standard model Higgs boson cross sections and acceptances, the observed (expected) upper limit on the invisible branching fraction at mH=125┬áGeV is found to be 0.58┬á(0.44) at 95┬á% confidence level. We interpret this limit in terms of a Higgs-portal model of dark matter interactions.

Chatrchyan S, Khachatryan V, Sirunyan AM, et al., 2014, Measurement of associated W + charm production in pp collisions at √s = 7 TeV, Journal of High Energy Physics, Vol: 2014, ISSN: 1029-8479
Measurements are presented of the associated production of a W boson and a charm-quark jet (W + c) in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV. The analysis is conducted with a data sample corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 5 fb−1, collected by the CMS detector at the LHC. W boson candidates are identified by their decay into a charged lepton (muon or electron) and a neutrino. The W + c measurements are performed for charm-quark jets in the kinematic region pjetT > 25 GeV, |ηjet| < 2.5, for two different thresholds for the transverse momentum of the lepton from the W-boson decay, and in the pseudorapidity range |ηℓ| < 2.1. Hadronic and inclusive semileptonic decays of charm hadrons are used to measure the following total cross sections: σ(pp → W + c + X) × B (W → ℓν) = 107.7 ± 3.3 (stat.) ± 6.9 (syst.) pb ( pℓT > 25 GeV) and σ(pp → W + c + X)× B (W → ℓν) = 84.1 ± 2.0 (stat.) ± 4.9 (syst.) pb ( pℓT > 35 GeV), and the cross section ratios σ(pp → W+ + c¯¯ + X)/σ(pp → W− + c + X) = 0.954 ± 0.025 (stat.) ± 0.004 (syst.) ( pℓT > 25 GeV) and σ(pp → W+ + c¯¯ + X)/σ(pp → W− + c + X) = 0.938 ± 0.019 (stat.) ± 0.006 (syst.) ( pℓT > 35 GeV). Cross sections and cross section ratios are also measured differentially with respect to the absolute value of the pseudorapidity of the lepton from the W-boson decay. These are the first measurements from the LHC directly sensitive to the strange quark and antiquark content of the proton. Results are compared with theoretical predictions and are consistent with the predictions based on global fits of parton distribution functions.
