Summary
Paul Kemp is Senior Lecturer at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London
Dr Kemp graduated in Biochemistry with Chemistry from Southampton University then studied for his D.Phil in Professor George Radda's group in Oxford University using NMR to investigate the regulation of heart energetics. After graduating he worked in Professor Jim Metcalfe's group in Cambridge University looking at the mechanisms that control smooth muscle cell proliferation and phenotype.
In 1996 he was awarded a British Heart Foundation Basic Sciences Lectureship staying in the Biochemistry Department in Cambridge and in 2002 was elected a Fellow of Emmanuel College. Dr Kemp then moved to Imperial to his current position of Senior Lecturer in 2005.
He works on a range of projects related to the control of cell phenotype. Most of his work is focused on the control of muscle cell phenotype and he has an active collaboration with Professor Mike Polkey at the Royal Brompton Hospital.
Dr Kemp has supervised a number of research students and was commended in 2010 with the award of a Rector’s Award for Excellence in Research Supervision.
