Petteri Leppänen joined Imperial College in January 2020 as a Postdoctoral Research Associate. His research focuses on organizations at the intersection of strategy, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Specifically, he seeks to understand how configurations of organizational design choices emerge, adapt, and perform in rapidly evolving environments characterized by novel technologies. This includes studies on how organizations plan and run experiments, how they learn and adapt, and how they create and capture value through innovative business models. He employs both quantitative and qualitative research methods and uses empirical settings ranging from online businesses to basketball teams and spaceflight.
Petteri teaches in the GMBA modules on Corporate Innovation and Entrepreneurship and has previously taught courses on business model innovation, new venture creation, and organization design. He holds a PhD in Strategic Entrepreneurship from the Technical University of Munich where he received the prestigious Best Dissertation Award from the Bund der Freunde der TUM. During his doctoral studies, Petteri was also a visiting scholar at New York University and Singapore Management University. Before joining academia, he worked in management consulting and studied economics and business administration.
