AB - The Front Cover shows novel spirofused piperidines with resorcylic, chromenic, and chromanic carboxamides. These were synthesized from 2(9Boc)4oxo1,5dioxa9azaspiro[5.5]undec2en2yl)acetic acid by sequential DCC mediated coupling with 2phenyl1,3dioxane4,6dione, ketoketene generation and trapping with geraniol, biomimetic aromatization by palladium catalyzed decarboxylation and cyclization. The resultant spiroresorcylate was derivatized by terpene cyclization and/or Bocdeprotection with reacylation to provide the spiroheterocyclic products.
