Structures 3 - AERO60008
This module covers two main topics: idealized thin-walled structures and plate theory. The structural principles developed in the first year are applied to thin-walled structures representative of parts of airframes. These structures deform under transverse loads and are prone to instability under compressive or shear loading and students will learn how to analyse the effect of such loads. Modern aircraft structures are frequently made of laminated composite materials and the course will give the basic theory for how to extend the theory of homogeneous plates to composite laminates.
Fundamentals of Composite Materials - AERO70033
This module will take you through some of the fundamental concepts in composite materials, which the rest of the MSc programme will build upon. The module will start with an introduction to various composite systems, followed by the mechanical properties and characterisation of composite materials.
Aerospace Structures - AERO70021
This module is concerned with teaching students how to analyse and design aerospace structures such as the wing and fuselage. It will include analysis of how these structures deform under loads and the effect of such loads will be considered.
