Responsible for managing our computer systems and creating new software to support our activities. Specialist in databases, which are the fundamental technology that underlie all our data collection and manipulation systems.

Technical Skills

Databases: Ability to use databases to make our activities robust, effective and efficient. 15 years experience of database administration, design and programming. Import and analysis of large databases (e.g. More than 1TB), creation of data standards, consistency checking, security, creation of derived data, data transfer and interfaces.

Geographic Information Systems: A good understanding of applications of GIS, mostly using arcGis, and experience of many aspects including data importing, modelling, error estimation, geographical analysis and mapping.

Project Management: Effective management of both internal and external software projects of varying size. Use of waterfall, rapid prototyping and agile methods as needed.

Software Engineering: Experience of formal software development, including requirements specification, formal designs (both data flow and object oriented) and testing.

Requirements: Use of requirement specifications, rapid prototyping (RAD) and agile techniques to capture the real needs of a development. Experienced at communicating with and understanding the needs of non-technical users e.g. GPs.

Internet: Creation of many high quality websites using various web technologies (html, javascript, server side scripting etc).

Software Development: Object oriented and standard programming using, visual basic, Delphi and C . Creation of technical websites. GP software, business support systems etc.

Systems Administration: Management of ERG servers and systems, including network security systems.
