Summary

I was appointed visiting Professor in the Department of Physics, Faculty of Natural Sciences at Imperial College in October 2020. My research activities are within the Centre for the Clinical Application of Particles, contributing to the development of the collaboration's scientific programme.

I work as a Consultant Radiotherapy Physicist (Clinical Scientist) in the Department of Radiation Physics and Radiobiology, within the Oncology and Palliative Care Directorate at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. My role is primarily clinical involvement in the day-to-day delivery of front-line cancer treatment services. I am responsible for developing the research and development profile of our department, and organise and chair the Radiotherapy Implementation Group that oversees the introduction of new technology and techniques for the benefit of our patients. I have acted as a Medical Physics Expert as required under IR(ME)R since 2005 and have over 20 years' experience of working in the NHS and collaborating with academic institutions.

I have extensive experience of supervising scientists and clinical colleagues in their research (inc. PhD and MSc students) and training programmes (inc. NHS Scientist Training Programme and Higher Specialist Scientist Training programme). I have lectured on the Imperial College MSc Biomedical Engineering programme for over 10 years and since 2018 have been responsible for the running of the radiotherapy physics aspects of the Engineering in Cancer Therapy module. I have been closely involved in the Medical Physics part of the NHS Scientists Training Programme (STP) from the start. As well as supervising a number of trainees, I work closely with the National School of Healthcare Science (NSHCS) as Joint Lead Station Writer for Radiotherapy Physics with responsibility for setting and assessing the scheme’s final exit assessment. I was recently a member of the group writing the revised curriculum for the STP and in 2020 was appointed a member of my Professional Body, the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM), Professional and Standards Committee.
