Summary

Raad Mohiaddin is Professor of Cardiovascular Imaging at the National Heart and Lung Institute Imperial College London and Royal Brompton Hospital.

After graduating with a basic medical degree, Professor Mohiaddin began general training in cardiology. Then he decided to pursue an academic career and in 1985 he joined the magnetic resonance unit at the Royal Brompton Hospital, London UK. He has since been concerned with the development and applications of contemporary cross-sectional imaging techniques in cardiology particularly Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CMR, MRI). His concern has been to make the best possible use of the functional and anatomical information provided by imaging in understanding cardiovascular diseases and to guide diagnosis and management of patients with these diseases.

Research interests include vascular imaging and assessment of the biophysical properties of the vascular wall, blood flow measurement and blood flow visualization, congenital heart disease, ischaemic and non-ischaemic heart disease, valvular disease and the development of imaging techniques to guide electrophysiological and interventional procedures.

Professor Mohiaddin was twice awarded the William S. Moore award of the International Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine in the years 1991 and 1993. This is the highest honor offered by this society to a medical investigator. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, the Royal College of Radiologists and the European Society of Cardiology. He has served on the Boards of Trustees and scientific program committees of numerous scientific and medical societies.

He is an assistant editor for the Journal of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance and on the editorial board of many medical journals and a referee for several clinical and scientific journals. He has an extensive list of peer-reviewed and invited publications, four published books and has a long list of invited lectures nationally and internationally.

Professor Mohiaddin is PI on several grant applications and has supervised several successful PhD and MSc students. He has served as internal and external examiner for a large number of universities.

Finally, Professor Mohiaddin established research collaborations bridging several clinical and basic science departments within Imperial College and the Royal Brompton Hospital.

Applications from students and fellows interested in research are always welcome.
