Summary

Overview

Sara is a practising physician in Infectious Disease and Microbiology with a PhD in Antimicrobial Pharmacology. She is primarily interested in how best to utilise resistance surveillance, diagnostics, stewardship, and pharmacokinetics-pharmacodynamics (PK-PD) to improve antimicrobial therapies for patients.

Sara's PhD involved the pre-clinical evaluation of antimicrobials across a range of models of infection and the construction of mathematical models to describe PK-PD relationships. Using Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption Ionisation (MALDI) Mass Spectrometry Imaging, Sara explored the spatial distribution of antibiotics in lung with the aim of helping drug development programmes identify compounds and regimens for patients with pneumonia that are safe, effective and reduce the emergence of resistance. She has specific interests in the molecular biology of multi-drug resistant Gram-negative pathogens and how genotype affects therapeutic outcomes.

Sara's research is supervised by Professor Alison Holmes and Professor William Hope, in collaboration with Roche.
